On the shelf
A set of easy-to-install ‘floating’
shelves is great for displaying lots
of different-sized pictures and other
decorative pieces that complement
the framed works. If your shelves
do not have a lip at the front, make
sure the pictures are well-supported
at the back - or give them a helping
hand with Blu-Tack, especially if
they're in a narrow area.
On the rails
If your house is old enough to have a
picture rail it's a great way to display
paintings and prints. The trick is to
hang works at varying heights, rather
than trying to keep them all at the
same level. Fill the spaces in between
with smaller treasures. The picture rail
might be vintage but the look is eclectic
and modern.
Life imitates art
Super-sized, still-life food photos
look fantastic in the kitchen or dining
area. If you’re good with a camera,
try snapping a few of your own, then
position your works of art above
bowls of the real thing. Sweet as.

Instead of visiting
a professional
framing shop, keep
costs down by
buying frames off
the shelf. Try larger
homewares stores
and places like IKEA
- there is a wide
range of colours
and styles from
which to choose.
